Clos Hirissou Pet Nat Rosé

A lot is in the winds. Sometimes you shift habits over time. Sometimes you just wake up and feel completely new. That’s how this spring has felt for me. New work. New connections. New dedications.

Speaking of new, I was able to get my hands on a new Fujifilm. When I spoke with the gentleman at the camera shop about acquiring it, he said he would do his best but the waitlist was weeks long. Three days later they called and had one for me. That’s how I know it was meant to be. I had been eyeing this style of camera for awhile, in search of something a little more lightweight for carrying around more often, especially travel. Don’t get me wrong, I will never be separated from my Canon, it is not in retirement, but resting for bigger shoots, my forever faithful companion.

To celebrate my new camera it felt like a sparkling wine was in order. Perhaps it was the blush magnolia blooms lining the streets and coloring my recent days that had me linger over an interesting looking rosé on the shelf.

The wine was a Clos Hirissou Pet Nat Rosé. It was on the subtler end of Pet Nat, not super tart but a rounded (dry) sweet like a cider. It stopped me at the store because of the falcon, hooray for marketing the marketer. It turns out the winemaker is also a falconer, inspired by the birds of prey that live on his vineyards, he has woven them into the logo for the wine. What a story.

The grape was beautiful and different. Mauzac from Gaillac, I hadn’t encountered before. Soft fruit, healthy acid, light effervescence. Paired very well with crispy fresh radish and cucumbers at golden hour under an umbrella of cherry blossom.

Everything is crisp and green and new again.
