Christophe Avi Agenais Rosé

It isn’t often I feel particularly compelled to do a writeup and share about a rosé but this one was a surprise and a delight I couldn’t keep to myself.

I happened upon Christophe Avi’s Agenais tucked away at a cute little co-op in a town we were passing through on a day of errands. I needed the usual sustenance: Baguette, Boursin, rosé.

This wine was a delight. I waited until a few days of rain came and went and the sun popped out to pop open this lovely blush and I’m almost sad I waited.

A trend with rosé is that it can be alcohol forward, being a younger wine it’s still “volatile” and doesn’t have as much fermentation time under it’s cork to calm those sometimes alarmingly alcoholic aromas. However, this wine couldn’t be more opposite. It’s juicy with a slight tang yet buttery, like a chardonnay. I can’t say I have had many rosé wines fit this tasting category– I mean really, an oily chardonnay?

This wine paired well with the delicate fragrance of Lily of the Valley and letting the light dim over the lake. With its gusting winds, spring is still holding on.
