Chateau du Hureau Saumur-Champigny Tuffe

This wine took me across a weekend.

Its story begins with a blurry, rainy Friday evening. And there’s nothing quite like a rainy Friday from my city perch. The light reflecting off pavement and glass like a palette knife painting is enough on its own to set a mood.

I intended to sink into some writing so I opened this discreet little wine I found in the cellar at DeLuca’s, a cozy little market near me in Boston. I’ve enjoyed being able to pop in there and always find something new.

Writing is a funny thing. Sometimes it’s fire and it’s all you can do to put pen to paper and get the thoughts down fast enough. Other times you have to dive. I sunk into a few pages, guided by this lovely and surprisingly juicy Saumur-Champigny, but writing took awhile to come to me.

As I said sometimes writing is desperate for your conduit ability to make it mortal, other times it is under the Ocean.

Saturday was a different mood and story. While Friday was a welcome melancholy-provoke-the-muse mood, Saturday was the muse. Having a date with love and a speak-easy, this wine was the perfect companion to getting ready. Not too overpowering, perfect for a simple cheese plate and off into the night I went.

As it turns out, this Chateau du Hureau Saumr-Champigny pairs just as well with rainy nights in as it does red lipstick and Swiss dot tights.
