A Drop in the Grey

If ever there was a mid-winter record it’s this one. A Drop in the Grey’s “Certain Sculptures”.

I can take zero credit for finding this diamond of an album. It came to me through a music sourcing Angel, hidden away in a record shop in southern New Hampshire, much like the record itself.

The moment this album came to me makes me laugh. Because it was mid-20s, too cool for school me, pouting around the store feeling bored. Which must have been obvious because Mr. Music Angel came out of nowhere and through a sigh said, “Well, what do you like?” Which is always a hard one for me to field because it is intimate and it really does depend on the mood you know?

I barreled off a few moody musicians that must have included The Cure, New Order, (I know, I know…) but also probably included Fleetwood Mac, etc etc. and he came back with this recco: “Certain Sculptures”. Genius.

The perfect moving through the ever-grey end of January promise of Spring or something equal soundtrack.

Every time I rediscover this album on the shelf is like the first time.

Must listen to track: “Heartache Feeds Heartache”
