Burgundy was the color of Christmas this year. Burgundy with forest green velvet bows fastened to antique brass taper holders, green tapers flickering against bow and bottle. One thing I will never regret is collecting those brass candle holders. What is it about vintage holders and the low lumens of a live flame?
I am seeing a theme unfold.
Vintage light carriers.
But also,
…by now you will have realized these aren’t tasting notes of the usual variety, rather situational impressions with an environmental reflection…

Christmas Eve morning answered the wish of everyone in New England, snow. I had a project in my mind to polish some antique brass candle holders that have been dormant too long but I was impatient and went for a walk in the woods instead. The sun stays low now making long shadows by noon. The woods were quiet in the way only snow blanketing can create.
The Burgundy (Pinot Noir) I had selected was bright like Winter. More specifically, like the beginning of winter. I love the way winter air finds its way into your lungs like new breath. Not cutting but enlivening.

Because of the varietal, you can still feel the freshness carried from the vine. Being older, it has its vinegar secrets. Much like snow blanketed winter.
Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny Les Drazeys 2011. The perfect Solstice Wine if you ask me.
